Thanks to the documentation coming with the watch, it is possible to understand the process of its production. Indeed, it started on the 11th June 1873. The case was supplied by Meylan Freres on the 25th April 1880. The watch was then sent to Audemars Paris in 1881.
The watch bears the signatures of some of the most renowned firms and is a testimony of the close links they had. The ébauche by Louis Audemars and the case, first made by Meylan Freres, were both sold to Breguet, who finished the work and finally sold the watch on December 29th 1885 to their agent in Constantinople.
The present lot, a beautiful example of craftsmanship and complicated watch, is engraved with the year of sale and the initials of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamed II. He reigned from 1876 to 1909 and was the 34th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, one of the most important and powerful state at that time.
