Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of its time keeping and therefore a service should be carried out in the near future at the buyer's expense. The movement and the chronograph are running at the time of cataloguing, however the screw-down chronograph pushers will not unscrew and therefore not operational. The winding crown is no longer screwed down. The dial has a small area of corrosion to the edge between 3 and 4 o'clock and the hours and minutes hands have light scuffs. The case has light scuffs on the lugs. The reference number and the serial number are easy to read. The bracelet has scuffs. The luminous dots are still glowing but the hands are not. The case has been re-polished. Clasp numbered 2-68.

Reference 6240 was the first Oyster Cosmograph and was manufactured by Rolex from 1965 until approximately 1969. The model differed from the previous Cosmograph model (reference 6239) by having screw-down water-resistant type pushers and was standardized with the ‘Oyster’ signature to the dial. Over time, the original colour of the registers have faded to give the watch an exceptional patina which enhances its collectable interest.
