The overall condition is quite good with only some expected wear to the gilt decoration. The stone has some natural veining, including one of approx. 2 cm to the rim. The actual colour is slightly more tinged with celadon than the catalogue illustration.

筆筒紋飾延續橫軸山水畫傳統，構圖中奇山俊水連綿，間綴人物亭閣，週而復始，接續不絕。 此裝飾手法亦反映出乾隆帝對於傳統水墨畫的推崇，並同時鼓勵創新之態度。筆筒上繪之山水景色，面面不同，而各有其趣，引人入勝，隨之意遊畫中仙境。二件構圖相類之玉筆筒，曾售於紐約蘇富比，其一作山水圖景，1985年4月17日，編號249，另一件則綴梅樹奇岩，1990年4月11及12日，編號275A；還有一件筆筒，飾鳶草梅枝紋，售於倫敦蘇富比1983年4月15日，編號185。

亦可比較一件乾隆墨彩筆筒，其山水紋飾構圖亦巧作連綿之景，曾三度售於香港蘇富比，1982年5月19日，編號339及1986年11月19日，編號290，最近一次為2006年4月10日，編號1527。
