Friends along, I climb the steep stone-cut steps,
Trudging through frost, among the murky mists.
Sparse bell-tones mingle with Buddhist chanting;
Among white rocks, we push open the gate of Chan.
We walk straight in to visit this shrine of dharma:
Monks here, daily, year-long, live at peace.
The green mountains seem to send this message:
'When flowers bloom, please, come up here again'.
