Condition

The jar was misfired with discoloration to one side of the body and cover. The cover with a chip under the rim, and the finial is lopsided which was original to the firing.

A similar waterpot found at a Yue kiln site in Yuyao, is published in Kaogu xuebao, no. 3, 1959, pl. 7:10. Two other similar jars, but without their covers, in the Shanghai Museum and dated to the 10th century is published in Wang Qingzheng, Yueyao, Miseci, Shanghai, 1996, pls. 58 & 59. Another waterpot, of similar form, but with different decoration and with its cover, in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, ibid. no. 50.
