Condition

The x-ray images reveal that there is a patch of restoration on the shoulder of the drum; otherwise the piece is in overall good condition.

The drum was presented as a gift to The Honorable Parker T. Hart while he was serving in the United States foreign service as either ambassador to Saudi Arabia and then Turkey from 1965 to 1968, or from 1968 to February 1969 while serving as assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern and South Asian affairs, the highest position in that geographic bureau.
