明永樂 甜白釉執壺

the finely potted pear-shaped body rising from a splayed foot to a generously rounded lower body extending to a narrow waisted neck, the shoulders set with a ribbed ear handle ending in a carved ruyi-head across from the tall spout secured with a strut carved with whispy clouds, all below the trumpet mouth, glazed overall in a thick smooth 'sweet-white' (tianbai) glaze 

Condition

The ewer is slightly slanted and the tip of the spout has been polished, but otherwise the overall condition is very good. The base of the handle has a glaze crack. There are also a few iron spots, short firing cracks to the unglazed footring, original body lines, and areas of slightly discolouration.

此執壺釉白濁甘潤,器形勻雅,選佳材,製工精熟,足見明初景德鎮高超瓷藝。宋時有瓷,青中閃白,名曰「青白」;延續至元,白中閃青,謂之「樞府」;繼至永樂,釉方精進,窰溫略升,所出白器,溫潤甜膩感極強,遂稱「甜白」。永樂甜白,多為祭祀禮器,配料獨一,僅見單色品類。此執壺形制,屬甜白之典型,另有其他器形者,景德鎮窰址出土,見鴻禧美術館展覽《景德鎮出土明初官窰瓷器》,鴻禧美術館,台北,1996年,圖版95-99。

以從來認知,此壺形制,被視為源出中東金屬器。今有新考,南宋見執壺一類,身形矮小,似立卵,無頸短流,或為雛形。入元後,已見與本品相若者,參考一青白例,打撈於韓國新安郡沿海處,公元1323年沉船遺存,錄於《Relics Salvaged from the Seabed off Sinan. Materials I》,首爾,1985年,圖版94。另見一例,玫茵堂收藏,載康蕊君,《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》,卷4,倫敦,2010年,圖版1614。至永樂朝,如類器形已臻成熟,比例均勻秀雅,造型簡潔美觀,此後歷經數朝百餘載,漸衰漸殆,參考康蕊君,〈明永樂青花如意開光式「蓮紋」執壺〉,香港蘇富比2010年4月8日,頁167。
