with a plain panelled top and short indented frieze skilfully formed and finely carved with acanthus-leaf scrolls above a ruyi band, the shaped apron similarly carved with the leafy scrolls continuing onto the square-section legs, the legs terminating in squared scrolls and all joined by a base stretcher

Condition
There is a 5cm crack to the base stretcher. Scratching and flaking to detail throughout. Possible consolidation of the joins and stabilisation of age cracks. Overall good condition.

乾隆朝紫檀束腰方桌，紋飾融合西式卷葉紋及中式如意雲頭紋，充分展現是時歐洲風格對於御製工藝品之影響。此類質精工妙之家具，應造於蘇州或北京，胡德生於《故宮博物院藏明清宮廷家具大觀》，卷1，北京，2008年，頁38-40，提及蘇式與京式家具製造，前者以講究美感造形、優雅線條、簡潔構造、勻稱比例及精巧紋飾而聞名，後者則是代表宮廷式裝飾風格，多出自駐京的廣州巧匠之手。
此時的歐洲風靡所謂「中國風」，以倣效中式裝飾風格為尚，而清宮內廷亦相對地崇尚歐式工藝。十八世紀中，清廷任命歐洲傳教士協助改建宮院建築，造就了這類融合意式及法式洛可可風格、中式、以及痕都斯坦式的卷葉、花卉紋設計。據田家青，〈Zitan and Zitan Furniture〉，《Chinese Furniture. Selected Articles from Orientations 1984-1999》，香港，1999年，頁195-96，紫檀家具可見主要二類，其一為明式簡潔流線者，再者為清式繁複洛可可風格。不論構造、雕刻、及素材運用，二者工藝水準皆極高超。此件方桌應造於清宮崇尚歐風最盛之時，其紋飾元素亦可見於當時乾隆帝詔命於圓明園建造之西洋樓，此類源自西洋的裝飾語彙，透過匠人巧手詮釋於深受珍視的紫檀家具上。

此件紫檀束腰方桌為現今僅知孤件，近類作例如一件紫檀長方桌，淺浮雕蓮紋及卷葉紋，桌足亦作類同回紋式，下檔較寬，清宮舊藏，現存北京故宮，錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．明清家具（下）》，香港，2002年，圖版91。亦可比較一件長方矮案，飾板雕刻卷葉花卉紋，刊錄於《你應該知道的200件紫檀家具．紅木古典家具》，北京，2008年，圖版130；另一對刻有牡丹卷草紋的紫檀紅木平頭案，售於香港蘇富比2013年10月8日，編號3083；還有一對紫檀月牙桌，刊錄於胡德生，前述出處，圖版174、175。
