- bronze
the slender middle section rising from a flaring foot to a trumpet neck, crisply cast around the central bulb with stylised taotie masks centred and divided by notched flanges, the neck with four upright triangular blades decorated with dissolved taotie masks in relief against a leiwen ground above a band of angular serpents, the foot similarly decorated with taotie masks and cicadas in relief against a leiwen ground, with two bowstrings and two crosses dividing the waist and foot, the bronze with an attractive olive patina with malachite encrustations, the base with an inscription reading Hu ju (Tiger chariot)

Condition
The vessel is in good condition with the exception of restoration to a circa 12cm., hairline crack running in an arc through one of the upright blades, 6cm., below the rim, visible internally and externally, with associated crazing.

本品造型古雅，器頸修長，配合樸麗紋飾，相得益彰。紋飾保存完好，尤為難得。本器乃安陽青銅禮器發展末期之典型，器身紋飾細密立體。本觚作陰線紋飾於饕餮之上，雷紋襯地精細，實屬同類高古青銅器之臻品佳作。器足內側帶《虎車》款，或為族名。
一相類觚例，出自Arthur M. Sackler收藏，華盛頓D.C.，圖錄於Robert W. Bagley，《Shang Ritual Bronzes in the Arthur M. Sackler Collection》，華盛頓D.C.，1987年，圖版38；2001年河南安陽市花園莊出土一例，載於 《殷墟新出土青銅器》，昆明，2008年，圖版62；H.E. Alexandre J. Argyropoulos 及 Julius Eberhardt收藏，曾展於《Mostra d’Arte Cinese》，Palazzo Ducale，威尼斯，1954年，編號6，售於紐約蘇富比2013年9月17日，編號1。
