comprising eighteen seals, including a Tang-style celadon ‘mythical beast’ jade carved with four-characters reading Hou Guhe yin (Seal of Hou Guhe), a celadon and russet jade ‘dragon’ seal carved with four characters reading Xiang Zijing yin, possibly referring to the Ming dynasty collector Xiang Yuanbian (1525-1590), and a celadon rectangular jade seal signed Yue Cheng and dedicated to Jingzhai xiansheng, wood stand

Condition

The group in good general condition. Clockwise from top left hand corner in catalogue image: The pair of green stone qilin seals: seal faces effaced, chips to corners. Beige soapstone buffalo seal: numerous small chips to edges and details of carving. Orange soapstone fish seal: good condition, minor surface wear. Pair of orange soapstone bats and cloud seals: seal faces effaced, small chips to edges and surface scratching. Orange and grey soapstone phoenix seal: seal face effaced, chips to edges. Orange and red soapstone dragon seal: seal face effaced, chips to edges. Square plain celadon and russet jade seal: minor chips, extensive russet skin and inclusions. Large square green jade dragon seal: one large stone flaw running up the side and top surface, russet skin, otherwise in good condition. Grey stone elephant seal: 5mm concave dent to surface (possibly polished), chips to corners and sides. Pair of white soapstone cloud and bat seals: chips to edges and surface scratching. Celadon jade mythical beast seal: good condition, small nicks and beige-russet skin. White jade mythical beast seal: small chips to corners and edges, brown stone inclusions. Green jade qilin seal: small chips to edges of seal face. Orange pebble seal: very good condition, minor surface wear. Rectangular greenish-beige soapstone seal: good condition, minor nicks to edges and corners.
