The lions are in good condition with the exception of the repair of one ear, minor nibbles to the edges of the manes and chips and nibbles around the corners and sides of the bases.

石獅向為權力象徵，唐代流行置石獅於墓前左右作為守護。一例為大理石獅成對，其中一隻售於倫敦蘇富比1976年12月14日，另一只曾現身倫敦佳士得拍賣場，售於1978年7月10日，編號163。另有一例，飾捲曲獅鬃，前足雄健，為Alice Boney女士珍藏，展於《The Arts of the T’ang Dynasty. A Loan Exhibition Organised by the Los Angeles County Museum from Collections in America, The Orient and Europe》，洛杉磯縣立博物館，1957年，編號43。

現存數件同例之中，尺寸、造型、素材各異；隻較小型抱子石獅像為紐約大都會美術博物館館藏，曾展於《中國古代石雕藝術》，國立歷史博物館， 台北，1983年，編號32；另一較大型石獅像售於紐約蘇富比2007年3月19日，編號123。
