cast seated with the hinged head turned gently to its left, detailed with bulging eyes, flaring nostrils and an open mouth revealing neat teeth and sharp fangs, the body and reticulated upright tail decorated with a mass of swirling fur
Condition
The neck of the lion has an approx. 3x2cm area of repair, an approx. 2.3x0.5cm missing area and two cracks (longest 2cm) near the hinge. The foreleg has been broken and repaired. The rim of the cover has a 2.5x0.5cm area of loss and a circa 5cm crack along one side of the lion's mouth. There are some dents and areas of loss to the extremities, such as the curls on the mane, and the hindlegs of the lion (three areas, each approx. 0.6x0.6cm). General casting flaws and other minor chips.
