each standing four-square, the head turned to the side with long gilt tusks flanking a curled trunk, the white body caparisoned with a saddle draped with a cloth decorated with stylised lotus sprays and suspending bejewelled tassels, surmounted by an archaistic gu vase decorated with stylised lotus sprays, all supported on a fitted plinth pierced with foliate scrolls

Condition

Both ears of both elephants have been restored. There are minor enamel loss, with some infilled, as evident on the saddles, along the edges of the tassls suspending from the cloth, and mostly on the gu vases and support. There are areas of loss along the tail, and small chips along the extremities. Minor rubbing to the gilding. There are small dents, cracks and pinholes to the enamels. Later fitted with wood stands.
