Condition
There is an approximately 6.5cm crack running diagonally from the rim, there is also a 1.2cm long crack running vertically from the rim to the other side. There is also an approx 2.5cm horizontal glaze crack to the interior rim. There is a star crack to the base 4.5cm by 2cm and there is some rubbing to the iron-red enamel.

嘉靖御製瓷器發色濃艷、對比鮮明，常配長壽主題紋飾，此為本期瓷作兩大特徵。本器繪五爪金龍，穿梭靈芝之間，取代常見之花卉紋，採寓意吉祥之紅釉作地配宮廷御用黃彩 ，祝賀天子萬壽無疆。明嘉靖皇帝篤信道教長生不老之說，本品紋飾圖案亦寄託此願。雙色釉彩為嘉靖瓷器特色，然本品紅黃兩色釉彩上下重疊，須以不同溫度先後燒製，實屬同期罕例。
此類紋罐 可見於中外主要博物館及重要私人收藏，東京出光美術館藏有一罐，曾展於《In Pursuit of the Dragon》，西雅圖藝術博物館，西雅圖，1988年，編號44；另一例曾展於《Iron in the Fire》，阿什莫林博物館，牛津，1988年，編號6；另有一例為Avery Brundage舊藏，現藏於三藩市亞洲藝術博物館，圖錄於賀利，《Chinese Ceramics . A New Standard Guide 》，倫敦，1996年，圖版483；另一作例見玫茵堂收藏，圖見康蕊君，《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》，卷2，倫敦，1994年，圖版706，售於香港蘇富比2011年4月7日，編號66。另有一帶蓋作例，器形紋飾類同，見國立故宮博物院，台北，圖見於Daisy Lion-Goldschmidt,《Ming Porcelain》，倫敦，1978年，圖版145。
