其後在一九八〇年代，王無邪進一步完善自己的藝術風格，並回歸工筆山水。一九八〇年，他旅至安徽黃山，翌年譜出一組八幅的《遊思》。作品中的陰影呼應了藝術家當年病痛纏身的困境，他本人將其稱為「黑暗時期」。山峰高聳入雲，時而迎著燦爛陽光，與水墨淡雅設色相映成趣。王無邪非常欣賞倫勃朗和泰納的畫作，並把西方油彩的濕畫法和明暗法用在宣紙上，宣紙上作畫不如畫布般可隨時修改，但王無邪呈現的畫面毫不遜色。
