王無邪於1936年在廣東省出生，幼年便移居香港，至今仍會回憶起上世紀五十至六十年代間所處的文化孤立狀態，當時旅行受到嚴格限制，國際文化浪潮也尚未影響到香港。趙無極在新亞學院的個展是他第一次接觸到如此深刻的高水平現代主義作品。那次展覽對當時很多藝術家來說都是一個重要的轉捩點，王無邪的老師呂壽琨也不例外，其作品隨即展現出一種純粹的抽象，更加自若。六十年代初期，王無邪獲得獎學金，赴美學習藝術與設計，著重研讀藝術理論。他非常欣賞西方的教育制度，以及在理論及哲學方面的「系統性思考」學習傳統。在美期間，他接觸到伊登、克利、康丁斯基、亞伯斯等人的作品，促使他從中國傳統藝術形式過渡到抽象的幾何風景和水墨畫。1971年，他更獲紐約洛克菲勒基金會的助學金。重返香港後，他畫下應用壓克力彩和紋理紙本的實驗作品《分割風景》，厚重的色面向美國色彩理論家致敬，色調則追思國畫中的岩石與山林。作品體現王無邪深厚的設計功底和多元化的藝術訓練。
