王魯炎的《W自行車》是藝術家於一九九五年創作的裝置作品,使用者即使向前蹬車,但車卻會向後行,作品是藝術家於九十年代在創作中實現「邏輯悖論」的具體呈現。藝術家認為把邏輯與實際經驗相對,形成陌生感。「邏輯悖論」是藝術家九十年代的一個重要創作方向,而此作品是他其中最為重要的作品。王魯炎是早期當代中國藝術的積極參與者,他於一九七九年參展過「第一屆星星美展」,一九八八年,他跟顧德新、陳少平及曹友濂等成立「新刻度小組」,打破了藝術作品的個人化痕跡,去除一切繪畫性,強調成員要跟隨創作的規則,以合作方式來完成作品。精確性、幾何化、刻度化是他們所追求的,故此作品總是有著精確的刻度。新刻度小組將幾何學引入藝術,於當代中國藝術界獨樹一幟。
