註：一九六二年五月二十三日，乃紀念毛澤東〈在延安文藝座談會上的講話〉發表二十周年，各地皆有活動配合，如江蘇省美術展覽、北京中國美術館之〈第三屆全國美術展覽會〉等，傅抱石亦有作品參加。本幅即寫於該等展覽開幕翌日，亦美術界活動頻仍之時。

秋江放棹乃畫家六十年代屢寫之題材，同年即有多幅，構圖如出一轍。本幅枝椏交錯，散佈畫面上方，霜葉隨風飄下，灑落於孤舟輕颺之江面上，毋乃「西風吹下紅雨來」之景，詩情畫境，意相合也！
