-Paper appears to be slightly greyish and with light stains due to age, otherwise, generally in good condition.

註：一九二八年，西湖國立藝術院創辦，潘天壽應邀出任中國畫主任教授，定居杭州。本幅寫於翌年夏，曰「客西子湖」，即任教該校時，應囑而製。
畫中錄其七絶，題〈湘江曲〉，以湘妃竹帶淚斑而得名，故取墨竹入圖，詩書畫相配。畫家早年受吳昌碩風格影響，居滬時，同以〈湘江曲〉為題寫有〈松石圖〉，構圖、技法，皆近之，惟詩意、畫境略見出入，稍後，寫成本幅，即兩者切合。從瘦竹細幹，禿枝長伸， 葉叢點綴於下方，簡朗疏約處，佈局有別於老缶，而題款書體，點劃間錯落有致，雖曰早期之作，已呈個人面貌。
