-Signs of restoration on previous paper cracks and paper loss can be found on both scrolls. Paper cracks and be found at the upper section of the first scroll and at the lower section of the second scroll. Discoloration along the borders due to age. Generally in fair to good condition.

上款：「伯琦」即常福元（1874-1939），江蘇南京人，早歲就讀於北洋水師學堂，畢業後，未服役海軍，轉投身圖書編譯及教育工作，歷任北京大學、北平師範大學、輔仁大學等教授。又籌辦中央觀象台，倡議組織中國天文學會，開拓中國近代天文事業。他長於天文曆算，學術著作甚豐。

註：嚴復任職北洋水師學堂達二十年，後轉至京師大學堂譯學館，與常福元先後具師生仝事之誼。兩人日後俱未循仕途發展，同在學術研究道路上分途並進。本幅無年款，按天津博物館藏嚴復致伯琦之書法屏條，寫於一九○九年，或為相若時期所作。
