上款：「乹英」即蘇乾英（1910-1996），廣東潮安人。畢業於上海暨南大學歷史系，留校任助教，從事東南亞歷史及華僑史研究。四九年後，轉至復旦大學任教。其學術著作甚豐，曾任上海華僑歷史學會理事等職。
註：一九三三年秋，黃賓老自蜀遊返滬，時暨南大學中國畫研究會會長劉作籌，及文學院助教蘇乾英持函邀請，出任該會山水畫導師，師生之誼訂於此時。日後，縱使戰火阻隔，一北居故都，一南遷八閩，復返滬江，仍信札往還不輟，談金石，論書畫，所涉皆文藝之道。
本幅寫於一九四九年，時畫家已南返，居杭州，蘇氏正與劉作籌策劃為其刊印畫集，多有通訊，詢其意見。賓老曾於信中論畫，有謂「欲求法備氣至，自當從沉著深厚，取法北宋為宜……我輩用功，以北宋深厚法古而出之以新奇，新奇者所謂狂怪近理，近理在真山水中得之。」畫中寫武彝山水，即閩中勝景「武夷」，蓋乾英曾居福建，今寫其境，以示北宋人之筆意，其地其法，莫不相宜，亦証信中所言非虛也！
