畫家怕畫柳不怕畫月，以其秀逸空靈之致不易傳也。余則時喜為之，每讀「楊柳岸，曉風殘月」，輒覺技癢，率性之作亦間有獨到處，不許時史效顰。午昌鄭昶。

鈐印：「鄭昶私印」。

註：「楊柳岸，曉風殘月」，柳屯田千古絶唱之句。午昌取其意寫成本幅，正如題跋夫子自道，不偏重於詞境，實著意於寫柳之妙詣。畫中近景乃疏柳三株，植於淺渚，其幹標立，枝椏層層重疊，柳條長垂，細密交織，鋪蓋如雨，輕柔飄揚，似隨風盪漾，搖曳多姿。仰望玉兔隱現，月色迷濛， 輕拂湖面，益顯煙波飄渺之致。

畫家寫柳為主，意境經營亦無殆忽，空靈秀逸之餘，近景地陂細筆點綴小草，真一絲不苟也。他自詡「不許時史效顰」，同儕效之，實邯鄲學步矣！

畫上無署年，以題跋書體風格及落款「鄭昶」，似屬三十年代初期愜意之作。
