註：上世紀三十年代初，大千先生兩遊南岳，訪鄴矦書院。「鄴矦」者，唐代名相李泌也，其隱居處，後改為鄴矦書院。先生瞻仰舊跡，發為詩文，屢題於畫上，紀遊兼抒前賢之懷。本幅所題七絶一首，即最早出諸筆下之詩作，首句更動，由寫景易為狀物，蓋三十餘年後追憶圖之，以歲壽遐齡之老柏為主題，取代書院所處之景。

畫中取古柏一截，主幹參天矗立，破畫而出，橫幹亘延，呈根基堅穩之勢，兩者橫豎交叠，氣魄巍然。

畫家時近古稀，以淡墨粗筆出之，寫來率意恣放，惟狀物傳神，仍見精力旺盛，刻劃點染間，似談笑用兵，筆到墨染處，準確無誤，難怪自選為赴港參展之代表作！

本幅保留原裱工，樣式為日式裝池，選料考究，配以銅軸首，當屬「大風堂」之裝潢。
