註：蝦、蟹、雞在白石作畫題材中有「三絕」之稱，又以畫蝦最神妙。六十歲以前白石畫蝦主要摹古，一九三〇年前後正是其畫蝦發生變化的重要時期。
〈齊白石畫法與欣賞〉書中稱「老人六十八歲了，畫蝦更進了一步。除去畫蝦眼用兩墨點稍外橫，腹部小腿由八只減到六只，長鬚更有彎曲變化外，最難得的是頭胸部份淡墨上加了一筆濃墨。白石老人認為對蝦寫生了七八年，這一筆是創造最成功的，他說『這一筆不但加重了蝦的重量，並且也表現了白蝦的軀幹透明。』這時他認為畫蝦算成功了。」
本幅寫於一九三〇年，種種新的特點在畫中確一一體現出來。
