庚午秋七月。祖夔二兄屬畫。剡谿鄭午昌用唐賢筆法寫漢女裝束。
唐以前狀貌仕女，要皆豐頤盛鬋，以端莊靜麗為美。顧凱之、周昉尚有妙蹟留傳，其所構寫，令人見之往往動敬愛念。宋元以還，稗官傳奇，每以多愁善病形容佳人，於是畫裡嬋娟亦盡作憔悴呻吟之態，其至工者亦祇能引人憐惜或逗人輕薄，是實有厚侮於閨闥，而為畫家者流所宜矯正之也。然破除俗格力追古法，非聰明而富膽量不辨。以便質左盦、秋君二法家以為何如？畫後二日昶又題。

-Tiny holes can be found on both leaves, which affect a character in the inscription and certain parts of the painting, and this can be improved by restoration. Otherwise, generally in fair to good condition.

註：「鎮海李家」祖韓、秋君兄妹精擅書畫，復活躍於滬上藝壇，府中常設文酒之會，結納不少書畫同道，揮毫合作，極一時之盛。其中鄭午昌與李家關係尤深。
一九二九年底，「蜜蜂畫社」成立，李祖韓與鄭午昌皆為發起人。三二年，鄭氏耗費心力創辦之漢文正楷印書局，李氏兄妹皆支持，並出資認股。至於鄭午昌與他們合作或寫贈作品予其兄弟們，數量更為可觀。
鄭午昌筆下人物，多屬山水畫作中之點綴，如本幅人物造型，極稀矣！更何況以「唐賢筆法寫漢女裝束」，更百中無一。觀乎他在長跋上之論，實藉此畫以矯正後世對仕女畫流俗之見，力宗上追古法，整治時弊。他深研畫學理論，對傳統國畫信念極強，但不拘泥守舊，此本正好說明其師古之造詣根基深厚，出手不凡，仕女姿態樸厚穩重，衣服裝束出諸游絲細描，綫條靈巧，活而含勁，極得古意。以此質諸祖韓、秋君，自是引為賞音同道，藝術觀點無鴻溝之隔。故特贈李祖夔兼示其兄妹，殆有深意矣！
