註：導江山城者，即指玉壘關，其地處蜀境，乃長江沿途著名景點之一。先生好採故鄉山水入畫，蜀江兩岸風光名勝自是瞭然於胸，如索橋、如玉壘關，屢現其筆下。他寫玉壘則山城盤踞嶺上，下臨湍水，刻盡其天險之勢。

本幅寫於一九四七年夏，時畫家已自滬歸川。入圖見高士結伴，閒坐溪岸畔，童僕繫舟以待，抬頭仰眺，袛見白雲繚繞，林蔭遮護間，城垣如長蛇蜿蜒依山勢起伏而築，關隘城樓扼險要處，正是玉壘關雄姿。他佈局不刻意強調玉壘之自然險峻，倒是著眼於恬淡暇適之觀景情狀，故前景細流涓涓，水面波濤不驚，伴以岸渚密樹佈列，一片蒼鬱，切合下筆正值夏暑之時。雖「此地風景不殊趙大年〈水邨圖〉」，但筆法圓融，細緻而不瑣碎，設色清淡秀潤，畫境情調卻與趙氏之名迹相通。若對比他六十年代初六尺巨幛〈導江玉壘〉之氣勢雄渾，又是別番情致，反映了畫家年齡、心境，以至技法之改變！
