of circular form, each with a single rib around the sides and a fitted domed cover, the lacquer of brownish-black colour, the larger box inscribed in red paint Zengren yuanzi zao (?) 267 yin zhen bu’er jia  under the cover and Longyi xinhai nian qiu inside the box ('made by (zao) Zengren Yuanzi in Longyi during the xinhai year, measuring 267'), the smaller box similarly inscribed Zengren yuanzi zao shang 189 yin zhen bu’er jia and Longnan dingsi nian qiu ('made by (zao) Zengren Yuanzi in Longnan in the dingsi year, measuring 189')

There are light scratches to the lacquer and nicks along the edges of the two boxes commensurate with age and usage. There is further wear visible to the lacquer, predominantly to the interior rim of both. There are a few small chips to the rim of the larger box, the largest approx. 1 cm., and a 2 cm. discoloured patch of wear visible on the base.
