the tubular handle carved in relief on a floral-diaper ground with two scholars and an attendant below a lofty pine bearing clusters of needles, between stylised clouds and overlapping petals on the broad joint and key-fret encircling a 'cash' diaper enclosing a wan symbol on the brush end, the cover carved in relief with a poem in running script on the sides and an archaistic circular seal mark on the tip

There are restorations and retouching to the lacquer, predominantly on the joint with the cover and on the cover rim. An age crack appears to have been stabilized vertically along the brush handle.
