of circular form supported on a splayed foot, finely decorated with multi-coloured enamels against a turquoise ground, the exterior of the box with a composite floral scroll of peony and chrysanthemum interrupted by four medallions, the medallions respectively enclosing the characters wan, shou, wu, and jiang ('Boundless Longevity) in blue against a white ground, the underside enamelled in grass-green, a blue key-fret border encircling the white-ground foot, the interior with a well-fitted tray supporting nine small trays, similarly inscribed with longevity characters, the slightly domed cover with identical motifs as the box save for an addition of four bats encircling the central medallion and gold specks on a blue ground along the rim
