deftly carved in deep relief through layers of rich cinnabar lacquer, the cap with Shoulao seated below a pine tree next to a spotted deer while two attendants are preparing tea, the brush handle with several immortals among trees, including Dongfang Shuo holding a large peach near the brush end and Li Tieguai supported on his iron crutch, two others immortals conversing below near a footbridge, the interior rim carved with prunus and bamboo between key-fret, the terminals picked out with a chrysanthemum

There are some expected age cracks to the lacquer, predominantly around the cap or extending from its rim, and probably slight retouching to the tip ends of the cap and handle but overall the brush is in very good condition.
