the large root naturalistically carved and hollowed out with thick irregular sides rising from a recessed base, the exterior detailed with burls, knots and prominent protrusions, the wood of a warm toffee-brown colour
Condition
The scrollpot is in good overall condition. There is some expected surface wear in areas, natural age cracks, pitting to the rim and occasional bruises or dents to the projecting knots, including a chip to one of the protrusions along the edge of the base with associated cracks in the bark, all consistent with age and the use of the object. There are some old worm holes to the sides and to the base. The actual colour is consistent if not slightly lighter when compared to the catalogue illustration.
