This work is in good condition. The paint layers are intact. Upon close inspection, a thin vertical black line is visible along the right edge of the canvas, beginning in the middle and ending beyond the edge onto the stretcher, which is likely inherent to the artist's intention. No signs of retouching under UV light inspection.

翻看勞倫斯·席勒的相片檔案有如縱覽二十世紀中期的美國歷史一般。許多具有非凡歷史意義的美麗照片一一呈現眼前：泳池內的瑪麗蓮·夢露、洛杉磯瓦茨暴動中的國民警衛隊、羅伯特·F·肯尼迪，在他最後一次競選期間在飛機地板上熟睡、李·哈維·奧斯瓦爾德、拳王阿里、福爾曼、雷德福、紐曼與史翠珊……

勞倫斯·席勒於1936年出生於布魯克林，自小在加州圣迭戈市郊長大；勞倫斯幼年不幸損傷一隻眼睛的視力，卻無損一顆熱愛攝影的心。初中的時候，勞倫斯得到自己人生中第一架相機，便立馬投入到攝影中去。早在他還就讀於佩珀代因大學時，攝影作品便頻頻見諸《生活》、《運動》、《花花公子》、《魅力》、《星期六晚郵報》等各大主流刊物報端。席勒的興趣與抱負不久轉向新聞領域，開始為全球各大報刊拍攝要聞圖片，客戶包括《生活》、《形象》、《新聞周刊》、《時代》、《巴黎競賽》、《明星》與《星期日泰晤士報》等。從珍貴的照片檔案中，可見席勒作為一位攝影師的堅持不懈、別具巧思與嫻熟的技術。

席勒還出版過不少暢銷書籍，包括曾獲普利策獎、與諾曼·梅勒合作之《劊子手之歌》；他的五本著作曾榮登《紐約時報》暢銷書榜。席勒還執導過七部電影與電視系列短片；其中《劊子手之歌》與《彼得大帝》更勇奪五項艾美獎。他也是位於馬薩諸塞州普羅溫斯頓的諾曼·梅勒中心與作家群體的創始人之一。

席勒的好奇心驅使他遍遊全球、廣結朋友。2005年，席勒來到中國並建立了自己的當代中國藝術收藏，包括逾80件繪畫與攝影作品，而他從未停下收藏的腳步。是次呈獻的拍品、李山之《閱讀系列：豹崽》，於2006年直接購自藝術家，自此一直由席勒收藏。是幅畫作與其他《閱讀》系列將植物與花朵嫁接在一起的作品風格一致，將一條魚與一隻小獵豹並置，令觀者反思，當今任何一種生命體與現存世界的界限是否仍然清晰可辨。
