each of square section with rounded indented corners and resting on four short feet, delicately inlaid on the interior in sections of mother-of-pearl on the black lacquer ground, one centred with a wutong tree emerging behind rockwork, flanked by three standing scholars and a small pavilion, the interior rim detailed with a band of conjoined kites accented with dots, the other decorated with a scenery depicting two standing scholars in a landscape set with large jagged rockwork and wutong trees next to a pavilion

As visible in the catalogue photo, there are extensive age cracks to both dishes. There is scratching to the interior and losses to the lacquer and the gilding around the rim.Crackles to main motif surfaces. Minor losses to mother-of-pearl decoratiob on the rockwork in the middle of the left dish. The underside of the right dish has a 1.5cm by 1cm bruise, resulting in loss of lacquer.
