each of circular form, carved with tapered sides rising from a recessed base, one decorated in zhaojin on a black lacquer ground with a scene depicting a seated scholar looking at a further scholar crossing a bridge behind him amidst a landscape accented with rockwork and large overhanging trees, the upper cavetto inscribed qiandu liu lang jin you hui, all surrounded by four cartouches enclosing floral and foliate sprigs, the exterior with a wide basketry panel, the other similarly decorated in zhaojin with a scholar seated in a courtard amidst rockwork and vegetation while an assistant serves him, the base inscribed in red with shuji mark
