with canted incurved corners and shallow rounded sides, supported on a straight foot of corresponding shape, the interior elaborately carved with a scenery depicting a group of scholars sitting astride horses en route to a pavilion, their assistants carrying qin (zither) and other items around them, the landscape laden with verdant vegetation and rocky cliffs, the exterior with four dragons writhing sinuously above a petal lappet band, the base lacquered black

There are age cracks to the surface of the interior and underside. There are minute chips and losses to areas of the design, and a 0.5cm of infilling to a loss at the top right corner. The underside has a wrinkled texture, where the organic core of this Yunnanese lacquerware has been exposed due to dryness of the lacquer base.

此盤雕刻風格與同時期傳統漆器有所不同，漆色帶澀，刀工鎖碎，紋飾一剔而就，與明中期一組所謂「雲南大理」的漆器風格略似。明人高濂在《燕閑清賞箋》中對雲南工匠製作的雕漆有所記載：「雲南人以此為業，奈用刀不善藏鋒，又不磨熟棱角，雕法雖細，用漆不堅……」沈德符在《萬曆野獲編》中雲：「今雕漆什物，最重宋剔，其次本朝永樂、宣德果園廠者，其價幾與宋埒。間有漆光黯者，而刻紋拙者，眾口賤之，謂為舊雲南。」從文獻的記載中，可見雲南雕漆的特色。
