Condition

The box shows some wear to the foot and several small retouched chips where the lacquer on the foot rim has been stabilized. There is a ca. 9cm wide area of restoration to the rim and corner of the foot. There are small areas of loss to the lacquer around the body and a ca. 9cm long horizontal crack to the lacquer. There are small areas of loss to the lacquer around the rim of the box. There is a ca. 12cm long crack to the inside starting inside the base of the box and extending up the side to the rim and possibly continuing through the rim ca. 6cm into the lacquer on the exterior with an associated area of loss to the lacquer on the exterior. The inside may have been repainted. The cover has a ca. 5cm wide area along the rim where the lacquer is cracked and a ca. 6cm wide area along the rim where the lacquer has been restored or repainted. There is a ca. 3cm long vertical crack to the lacquer on one side. The inside of the cover may have been repainted. Overall box and cover are in good condition. The top layer of the lacquer glossy, the three layers of red lacquer clearly visible.
