The figure is missing its right hand and parts of his left hand. There are losses to the chignon and it appears that the head was reattached. There is a break running through the left hand side of the lotus base and extending through the figure's left foot, this part has been reattached in the past with glue. There is a vertical crack running ca. 40cm through the wood on the back of the figure, from the base and extending to the shoulders. There are overall small losses and vertical cracks to the wood. There are traces of gilding in some of the recessed areas of the folds of the robe as well as minute traces of a lacquer surface. The results of the C14 test (C 241907A-2) have shown that the wood can be dated to between 986 and 1030 AD.
