reposant sur un court pied droit, les bords doucement évasés, le pourtour incisé et décoré de deux dragons à cinq griffes à la poursuite de la perle enflammée en rouge-de-cuivre sur fond bleu rehaussé de vagues stylisés au-dessus d'une bande de pétales soulignant le pied, marque à six caractères dans un double cercle en bleu sous couverte à la base

Condition
The bowl has a hairline crack that extends ca. 3cm long from the rim into the side of the bowl. There are eight small chips to the rim, the largest measuring ca. 0.5cm. There is minor wear to the glaze on the exterior of the bowl. There are minor pin-point imperfections to the glaze to the inside centre and inside sides of the bowl. The blue is of a vibrant blue tone, the underglaze red a rusty tone.

The present bowl is very rare and only a handful of similar examples are known. A single bowl of this type from the E.T. Chow Collection was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 19th May 1981, lot 542. Two other examples also sold at Sotheby's, one in our Hong Kong saleroom, 23rd May 1978, lot 96, and one at Sotheby's London, 6th April 1976, lot 139. More recently, a pair of bowls of this design formerly in the T.Y. Chao Family Collection, were sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 27th November 2013, lot 3433.
