「陳蔭羆的抽象表現主義又區別於極度個性張揚的、具有視覺強暴性的美國式抽象表現主義。如果說富有狂暴情緒的德庫寧（Willien de Kooning）是以粗暴的筆觸、縱橫的線條和空間交疊的形象給他的作品注入了驚人的活力，那麼，陳蔭羆的作品則以內在的含蓄、沈靜來展現筆法的豐富變化和色彩的和諧變奏，他是在沉潛中顯示動的力量，寓動於靜，將激情的波瀾注入變化微妙的意味中；如果說波洛克（Jackson Pollock）的作品中始終流動著一種原始的力量，他是以直覺或偶然的因素表現下意識，用各式各樣的方法滴、灑、刮、打罐子裡的顏料，並通過這個過程體驗心靈自覺的動力，那麼陳蔭羆的線、形、色相對於波洛克的原始性，則顯示出文人的書卷氣，它以文化的溫和恭謙顯示遠古文明的滄桑悲涼，他的表現性過程是在書法線條的空間中隨意生髮，即興揮寫，其行動是不為而為，是一種空境玄靈的精神體驗；如果說托比（Mark Tobey）是借助於東方的書法來表達他對於紐約曼哈頓城市的感覺，他的抽象表現是美國抽象表現繪畫中最具有中國書法的線條質感，那麼他的白色書寫遠沒有陳蔭羆作品的中國文化意蘊，也遠沒有陳蔭羆那樣自然地將豐富的色彩轉換為書法的靈氣。」
