曾海文1927年生於福建廈門，1991年病逝於巴黎。從小舉家遷居越南的他從未接受正統藝術教育，於1948年抵達巴黎後，他沒有依照家人的期望學醫，反而被當地的藝術文化吸引，決定成為職業畫家。曾海文一生創作不懈，他的藝術深具自由、坦承、熱情和中國書法之美，喜歡把中國傳統的抽象元素和當年歐洲盛行的抒情抽象（Lyrical Abstraction）筆調融會貫通。藝術家的繪畫自成一家，呈現細膩、複雜又生動的特質。

此次蘇富比上拍十一件彩墨及一幅珍稀的油彩畫作《風暴》（拍品編號 5072），誠為難得。其中六幅彩墨（拍品編號 5073、5074、5075、5076、5150、5151）是以藝術家標誌性的雙聯作方式呈現， 也因為既定的尺寸（70 x 100 cm）成為了藝術家的標誌。畫面不管為彩色或黑白，構圖豐富。紙上的筆墨結構與空間的虛實對應傳達了藝術家畢生鑽研的道家精髓。

另外上拍的五幅彩墨（拍品編號 5152、5153）尺幅雖小，曾海文卻能在紙上容納他所想表達的冥想之氣，如同自由無形的舞蹈在虛無的空間擺盪遊走。

曾海文的畫作不模擬自然，他的抽象線條是即興的。油畫作品《風暴》的中央可見山巒層疊，上方的灰白顏料由藝術家大筆揮灑，產生強勁的動勢和緊繃的張力，如正處在狂風暴雨中仍屹立的自然。藝術家對中國水墨筆法的熟稔自然地展露其間，畫布上的顏料重重層疊、盤根交錯卻自有秩序，使單純的畫面流露出一絲平淡蕭瑟的人文畫意境。
