This work is in good condition. Overall there is a slight patination across the surface, spots of oxidization, notably on backside of the left and right arm. There are several holes, which are inherited from the artist and caused by the casting process.

從傳統名匠到現代大師

現代中國藝術史上，朱銘是少數非循美術學院出身的國際大師，其自十五歲起師從傳統雕匠李金川，至三十歲再拜入現代雕塑家楊英風門下，純然遵從傳統師徒模式，卻憑藉自身不懈之求索，創造出影響力遍佈全球的現代雕塑，此番事業歷程，象徵了傳統匠人走向現代藝術家的身份蛻變，以及傳統手工藝邁進現代雕塑之價值昇華。本季上拍的九項朱銘作品，涵蓋「鄉土」、「太極」及「人間」三大系列，其誕生先後有序，代表朱銘創作路上的不同階段，對於理解其技巧與思想上之演變，允稱上佳示範。

「太極系列」：蜚聲國際的哲學和武學

如果說「鄉土系列」使朱銘在台灣嶄露頭角，那麼「太極系列」則使藝術家躍登全球舞台。1977年，朱銘以「太極」作品首度出外參展，在東京中央美術館大獲好評。「太極系列」的思想核心為道家哲學，作品造型質樸簡約，重視招意表達，其創作過程則強調奏刀快於思考的潛意識狀態。適逢功夫浪潮席捲全球，「太極系列」自創始以來，迅即風靡亞洲乃至歐美各國，當中《單鞭下勢》一招以守為攻，其態勢低調潛藏，卻同時積蓄能量，預備在抵禦來襲時借力反擊，深得道家「不爭之爭」的神髓，堪稱經典。
