This work is in good condition. There are scatter spots of foxing, due to material aging, blue spots on the flowers, probably inherited from the artist. The left edge has a slight and faint frame mark, while the top right had corner has a handling mark.

「說起我們王國的疆域，其實狹小得可憐，長不過兩三百公尺，寬不過百把公尺，僅限於台北市館前路新公園裡那個長方形蓮花池周圍一小撮的土地。我們國土的邊緣，都栽著一些重重疊疊，糾纏不清的熱帶樹叢：綠珊瑚、麵包樹，一棵棵老得鬚髮零落的棕櫚，還有靠著馬路的那一排終日搖頭歎息的大王椰，如同一圈緊密的圍籬，把我們的王國遮掩起來，與外面世界，暫時隔離。然而圍籬外面那個大千世界的威脅，在我們的國土內，卻無時無刻不尖銳地感覺得到…..在我們的王國裡，只有黑夜，沒有白天。天一亮，我們的王國便隱形起來了，因為這是一個極不合法的國度。」這是白先勇的文學名著〈孽子〉一書中，對一群不見容於主流社會的男同性戀者，流連在城市裡幽暗角落的描述，故事的時間背景是1970年代，故事的主要場景正是圍繞在畫家席德進筆下的這處新公園蓮花池，雖然文字中的他們在生活、慾望和社會偏見中掙扎求存，在王國裡或者彼此取暖，或者隨波浮沉……但自身為故事裡王國的一員，席氏卻將他們化身為一朵朵兀自綻放的紅蓮，在不染塵處見清姿。只是，現實中要走進館前路，跨越新公園大門的這一小步，卻也是畫家人生進入作家筆下這個王國的一大步。
