Condition
This work is in good condition. There is evidence of light wear on four edges, and three minute specks of paint loss scattered along the right edge, one at the bottom right corner and another two approximately 10 cm towards the top edge. There is no evidence of restoration under UV light.

余本於1935年從加拿大返港定居後，他以大量的油畫和水彩寫生為滄海桑田的香港忠實地記錄下了當時的面貌，且與陳福善、李秉一併被譽為「香港畫壇三傑」。此幅《魚》所描繪的對象經常出現在余本的靜物畫中，是廣東人非常喜愛食用的生魚。余本對社會上的勞動人民，尤其是怒海餘生的漁民，有着深厚的感情，曾感慨道：「我們吃的魚是他們冒了生命之險給我們的。」借對這盤中之物的描畫，藝術家表達了對現實生活中最平凡事物的熱愛以及對勞動者的感謝。
