Condition

This work is in good condition. There are four holes each on the top and right edges that are presumably inherent to the artist's choice of material, and light abrasions along the four edges. On the front side, there is short and light craquelure towards the left edge, about 18 cm from the bottom. On the back, there is a minor paint flaking at the bottom, 13 cm from the right; a 3-cm light craquelure by the right edge, 10 cm from the bottom; and a small paint loss on the right edge, 14 cm from the bottom. No restoration is apparent under UV.

雙面經典

丁衍庸對雙面畫的偏好,除了有當時經濟條件的客觀背景,更因為他重視創作的過程和探索的經驗。還值得一提的是,丁衍庸對雙面印刻和邊款雕刻素有研究,雙面創作也不失為另一種形式上的呼應。此件拍品以畫板的兩面呈現了畫家對不同藝術表現手法的跨越與融和,帶給觀者無窮趣味。

《小丑》的畫面中,不管是簡單隨意的造型還是濃郁大膽的用色,都呈現了野獸派風格對丁衍庸的深刻影響。他非常欣賞馬蒂斯(Henri Matisse),認為其「回復了原始藝術的本質,和兒童純真的天性,以強勁生動的線條,單純美妙的色彩,收到了驚人的效果」,而這正是丁衍庸所嚮往的境界。小丑誇張概括的造型、明亮純粹的用色和自由的空間處理,有如小孩般天馬行空,從中我們能感受那富於美學化的戲劇情趣。這種化繁為簡卻生動捕捉了人物的鮮活形象,同時散發了丁衍庸爽朗諧趣的性情。丁衍庸多年素描和速寫的功底為其人物肖像畫打下了牢固的基石,因此只需寥寥數筆,就能刻畫出對象的特徵和神韻。《仕女畫像》近似「一筆畫」完全以線造型,且僅用了紅、白兩色就製造出了強烈的視覺衝擊。樸實有力的用筆印劃如畫,似篆刻線條,在紅底的映襯下帶來立體、直接的感染力。整幅畫作像一方鈐印,蔚為奇想。
