Condition
The painting is in good condition overall, as is the canvas, which is clear and taut. There are indications of light wear and handling but the paint layers are well-preserved. Under ultraviolet light examination, restoration is evident, which are mainly located around the margin. Framed.

鐘泗濱是新加坡現代藝術的先驅,更是南洋藝術運動中重要一員。雖以中國書畫出身,但從其作品可以看出他對西方美學與技巧的涉獵及探討。通過《黃昏》,我們更能細看鐘泗濱的藝術成長。
藝術史學家 T.K. 薩巴帕斯在其著作中說到:「(鐘泗濱)對繪畫方式的態度、周圍環境的反應、選題及對某些事物的側重都為南洋運動注入鮮明的個性,成就新加坡第一個現代藝術運動。」[1 ] 而現實中,也的確是鐘泗濱在一九七九年與史學家雷薩·比亞達斯(Redza Piyadasa)共同定下「南洋」一名。
鐘泗濱受他在歐洲所見的抽象主義啟發,晚期創作中嘗試經營這種藝術風格。《黃昏》的紅在其早期作品中也常出現,但在抽象畫幅中尤其重要,夕陽下,地平線浮現一抹抹的赤紅、紫紅與橙黃,營造出令人陶醉的氛圍,是對自然現象的深入表達。
南洋運動將中國傳統與包括後印象派、野獸派與立體派在內的巴黎學派結合於一體,但其藝術所彰顯的始終是來自於東南亞的人文景象。鐘泗濱便是在一次往峇里的旅程中建立起對那片土地的愛慕。
《黃昏》帶有一絲神秘氣息,是鐘泗濱自己的心靈與大自然的對話,使其成熟穩健的繪畫基礎上又添一層新神采。
