  • gilt-bronze
cast seated with legs folded in dhyanasana, the left hand resting in the lap with the palm facing upwards in dhyanamudra and the right hand falling over the knee with the palm facing outwards in varadamudra and holding a myrobalan between forefinger and thumb, wearing a dhoti reaching around the shoulders and falling from the left side in rhythmic folds over the arm, across the belly and over the legs onto the throne, the face with finely cast features wearing a benign expression flanked by long-lobed ears and surmounted by tightly curled hair surrounding the domed ushnisha, all supported on a double lotus throne with petal lappets each enclosing a foliate motif, with traces of gilt lacquer, blue, red, white and black pigments

Condition

There is evident wear and loss of the gilt and lacquer. There is an approximately one inch (2.4 cm) diagonal break to the edge of the base, two small holes and some dents along the base. The base plate is missing and the interior is fitted with a metal frame.
