well painted with a scene of a scholar seated on a riverbank watching two fishermen row past, the luxuriant riverscape dotted with dwellings, fantastically-shaped rocks and trees and a waterfall in the background, all between incised borders and below pendent leaf tips on the waisted neck

There are burst bubbles and iron spots around the rim. Otherwise the vase is in overall good condition.

Sleeve vases painted with monumental landscapes are comparatively rare. It is more common to see vases decorated with historical figures, scenes from popular novels of the time, and birds and flowers. The present lot is also unusual for the the waterfall dominating the entire scene in the distance.
