of rectangular form supported on four animal mask feet joined by a floral apron, densely carved and undercut with a scene of figures engaged in leisurely pursuits in a bustling city with pavilions and trees, the interior fitted with a tray holding various sewing components
Condition
The base has an area of loss to the top right corner (14 x1.5cm) and a ca. 15cm crack to the bottom edge, one fragment (4.5x1.5cm survives and is in a small bag within the box). The sides of the cover has been split and restuck professionally, with some associated splits along the top edge and very minor traces of glue visible. Thre is a 2.2cm crack to the top left corner. The feet and apron may have been reglued. The internal compartment is slightly warped, but considerable components remain. The metal hinges are slightly tarnished.
