The chairs are in overall good condition, the wood is of good colour. There are minor chips along the extremities. Both chairs have shrinkage to the front of seat. One chair has the left arm broken and repaired with traces of yellow glue. There is also regluing to the top stretcher near the crossrail to the left side, and along the front vertical strut, and scrolled struts, which is secured with a nail. The bases of the feet are worn. The other chair is chipped to the base of the right arm, 1.5x1cm. It is repaired with a pin to the back, with chips on the underside. There is regluing to the stretchers and side. The left arm has an old repair.

黃花梨官帽椅線條簡約和諧，深具現代感，與明代官服頂帽形態相似，故名「官帽椅」，一直被視為中國精英人士身份及權力象徵。官帽椅分四出頭式官帽椅和南官帽椅兩種：前者搭腦兩端、左右扶手的前端出頭、後者搭腦和扶手則不出頭而向下彎扣。官帽椅線條悅目和諧，久看不厭，靠背及承托扶手的直線微朝外彎，使外觀更顯輕盈利落。

根據柯律格（Craig Clunas），《Chinese Furniture》，倫敦，1988年，頁20所述，此類官帽椅多成雙製作，符合中國室內設計講究對稱之原則。明清版畫中官帽椅多置於飯桌側、文房書桌前、或會客室中以供賓客使用。參見1616年木刻版《金瓶梅》（同上頁22，圖8），插圖中男主角與正室坐官帽椅，而妾侍等則坐木櫈。關於官帽椅之基本製式及紋飾詞彙，見Curtis Evarts，《From Ornate to Unadorned》，《Journal of the Chinese Classical Furniture Society》，1993年春，頁24-33。
