- yellow jade
carved recumbent with a bundle of scrolls on its back, finely detailed with an incised mane and a scaly body, its head turned backward towards with a tortoise-like dragon (bixi) carrying a bundle of books behind, all on a bed of swirling waves, the jade of a greenish-yellow tone with traces of caramel-russet skin
Condition
The carving is in good condition with the exception of minor chips along the extremities, including one on the edge of the bundle of books carried on the tortoise's back, minor nibbling along the jaws of the horse and the edge of the front hoof of the horse. There are natural fissures running across the surfaces. The stone is of a slightly greener tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
